Mošćenice
a town of rich heritage and unusual traditions
On a hill above the beautiful Mošćenička Draga lies Mošćenice, a town whose fortified core is listed in the Croatian Register of Cultural Heritage. Though small, it hosts two unusual world championships. The first is picanje, a traditional Easter competition where eggs are struck with coins in an attempt to crack their shells. The second is a paper airplane throwing contest. Legend has it that one competitor managed to throw a plane down 753 steps so that it landed exactly on St. Ivan Beach. You might also want to visit the ethnographic collection featuring clothing and tools, as well as the Mošćenice toš, a 300-year-old olive mill and symbol of the town.
