St. James’ Park

In the very center of Opatija lies a true oasis of scents and colors. A walk will take you past palm trees wrapped with climbing roses toward beautiful flower beds. If you hear the sound of water, it surely comes from the impressive neo-baroque fountain with sculptures of Helios and Selene, the god of the Sun and the goddess of the Moon. The park’s beautiful architecture is completed on the eastern side by St. James’s Church, the Benedictine abbey after which the town got its name.
